Municipal elections | Parti Laval - Team Larochelle presents its commitments to clean and safe neighborhoods
Laval, Tuesday, September 30, 2025 - On Tuesday morning, Parti Laval - Équipe Larochelle continued the unveiling of its platform by presenting a set of key commitments for "safe, clean and well-maintained" neighborhoods, one of the party's six main priorities according to its leader and mayoral candidate Mr. Larochelle. Among other things, the political party pledges to increase police patrols by 50 %, call for municipal control of photo radar, implement a " Zero accidents "After 12 years of the Boyer administration, citizens can see for themselves that safety and cleanliness are being neglected. "After 12 years of the Boyer administration, citizens can see for themselves that safety and cleanliness are being neglected. We are proposing a responsible and effective alternative, focused on the real priorities. Simple things that we can quickly put in place to concretely improve the safety and quality of life of the people of Laval. That's what we're proposing at Parti Laval," says Claude Larochelle, Parti Laval's leader and mayoral candidate.
A real plan for neighborhood safety and maintenance
According to Mr. Larochelle's political party, for several years now, road safety and the maintenance of streets, parks and public spaces have been constant concerns expressed by the people of Laval, who have made numerous requests in this regard.
Moreover, while Laval sadly stands out, not only for its lack of sidewalks, but also for its record rates of speeding, the Boyer administration seems, according to Parti Laval, to be ignoring the safety needs of citizens in the neighbourhoods, since it has refused the vast majority of the 9 Parti Laval - Équipe Larochelle proposals made to City Council on this subject since the beginning of its mandate. In light of these observations and the urgent need to act to curb the problem, Parti Laval is now committed to taking up and implementing these essential measures, as well as several others, at the start of its mandate:
- Increase police patrols dedicated to road safety by 50 % to better enforce speed limits, mandatory stops and the Highway Traffic Act, especially near schools and in residential neighborhoods. Reclaim municipal control of photo radar to ensure its strategic and effective use. Deploy a "Zero Accident" plan focused on prevention, safe design and rigorous enforcement of traffic rules;
- Double the number of kilometers of streets with sidewalks or safe pedestrian walkways, to provide safe, accessible and comfortable routes for everyone;
- Install a minimum of 100 clearly marked, signposted and well-lit pedestrian crossings, especially near schools, parks, seniors' residences and accident-prone areas;
- Improve lighting throughout the region by installing streetlights that are both efficient and well integrated into the living environment. Good lighting contributes to safety, conviviality of public spaces and quality of life in all neighborhoods;
- Set up dedicated teams, pothole squads and cleanliness squads, to ensure accelerated cleaning and repair of streets, sidewalks and parks.
"What we're proposing today are realistic, concrete measures that can be implemented immediately to improve people's lives and safety in our neighborhoods. Mr. Boyer and his party have had 12 years to act, and they haven't done it. Limiting speed to 30 km/h on residential streets and making a video clip aren't enough to curb abuse and improve safety for real. The problem persists. Enough is enough. Laval deserves better, and Parti Laval is ready to take care of the real business," concludes Mr. Larochelle.
