Municipal elections | Claude Larochelle unveils a new series of candidates for the municipal election

Laval, Wednesday, June 25, 2025 - On Wednesday, barely a week after announcing his first five candidates, Parti Laval leader and mayoral candidate Claude Larochelle unveiled a new round of candidacies, bringing the number of confirmed candidates from his political party to nine. With today's announcement of four new experienced faces joining his team for the November 2 election, the districts of Auteuil, Le Carrefour, Renaud-Coursol and Pont-Viau will be represented respectively by Marielle Cormouls-Houlès, Romina Rajabi, Wassim Mekideche and Redouane Yahmi. "These additions confirm our determination to present a talented, efficient and complementary team! With quality people like Marielle, Romina, Wassim and Redouane, Parti Laval will continue to surprise," explains Mr. Larochelle.

Women in the field take the plunge: Marielle Cormouls-Houlès and Romina Rajabi

A resident of Auteuil for over 20 years, Marielle-Cormouls-Houlès will be carrying the colors of Parti Laval - Équipe Larochelle in the district of the same name for the November election. A seasoned executive search professional, committed citizen and woman of action, the candidate has more than 25 years' experience in municipal, industrial and community affairs. Described by Mr. Larochelle as "a long-standing grassroots woman renowned for her thoroughness, her ability to listen and her authenticity", she has been involved with the Alfred-Pellan school in the neighbourhood, and with the Relais familial d'Auteuil, which she chaired for seven years.

As for Romina Rajabi, the first officially announced candidate in the new Le Carrefour district created after the electoral redistribution that increased the number of seats from 21 to 22, she stands out for her social involvement and her mobilizing energy. A law student at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and retail manager, the young candidate has been actively involved in causes close to her heart in recent years, such as the integration of new arrivals, the fight against food insecurity, the protection of green spaces and support for the elderly. A former director of a community center, she says she wants to take concrete action on neighborhood issues, in Le Carrefour, to build a more equitable, safe and inclusive city.

"Too many people don't feel listened to or represented in Laval. If I decided to join Parti Laval, it's because it's an efficient, human team that knows how to do politics the way it should be done. I think we can bring Laval together under a single political banner that is inclusive, accessible and attentive to the realities and priorities of each neighbourhood," says Ms. Rajabi.

Action candidates for the centre-south: Wassim Mekideche and Redouane Yahmi

A pharmacist, entrepreneur and Laval resident since childhood, Wassim Mekideche, a proud Lavallois who grew up in Renaud-Coursol, will be joining Mr. Larochelle's team. A graduate in pharmacy from the Université de Montréal, Mr. Mekideche has worked with a variety of populations, notably in the aboriginal communities of James Bay, and is a regular contributor to a scientific journal for healthcare professionals. Today, by joining Parti Laval, the candidate affirms his desire to "really help others and contribute to building a Laval where young people can flourish".

Further south, in Pont-Viau, Redouane Yahmi, an independent candidate for mayor in the 2021 municipal elections who won nearly 800 votes, and who has since joined Parti Laval and its youth community, will be taking the plunge. A credit professional for a banking institution, former political columnist for Radio Centre-Ville and vice-president of Parti Laval's Youth Community, Redouane Yahmi says he hopes to put his experience to work for the citizens of Pont-Viau with a team he believes will make a difference: "After running as an independent for mayor, and after meeting many people in 2021, I realized one thing. To get things moving, you need a real team, a solid, effective team. Parti Laval is the best vehicle for bringing Laval together, refocusing priorities and taking care of real business. I believe in it deeply, and that's why I'm here," says the candidate in Pont-Viau.
