Laval, Tuesday, September 15, 2026 – Following a meeting of the Parti Laval board of directors, Louise Lortie, city councillor for Marc-Aurèle-Fortin, was unanimously chosen as interim leader of the political party. Designated councillor for Parti Laval and Leader of the Official Opposition on the city council since November 2025, Ms. Lortie will now also assume the duties of Leader of the Official Opposition until a permanent leader is chosen to head the party in the 2029 elections.
"I am truly touched by this display of confidence. It is an honor for me to be able to guide Parti Laval toward the upcoming elections and to put my experience at the service of our members, as well as all the men and women of Laval," declared Ms. Lortie.
A woman of action
City councillor since 2021, Louise Lortie has been involved in Laval public life for many years. Notably, she chaired the Commission scolaire de Laval for over eleven years, where she gained solid governance experience and developed a deep understanding of the issues affecting families, neighborhoods, and the entire Laval region.
Known for her rigor, attentiveness, and commitment, the new interim leader of Parti Laval favors a grassroots approach and a sustained presence in the community. She wishes to contribute to municipal politics that are closer to the people, where citizens are heard more and where their concerns occupy a central place in decision-making.
"Louise has a quality that cannot be learned from books: she is deeply human. She genuinely loves reaching out to people, listening to them, and understanding what they are experiencing. For the board of directors, the choice was obvious. Gather and bring the power of the people closer together
For Louise Lortie, this new phase must allow Parti Laval to continue its work with the same rigor, while actively preparing for the future. Over the coming years, she is committed to keeping a close eye on the administration regarding public finance management, which she considers to be in a "terrible state," and to working to bring power closer to the people, organizations, and neighborhoods.
She also wishes to bring together people from all political backgrounds and open the door to those who are disappointed with the Mouvement lavallois, so that everyone who wants to get involved and make a difference in Laval can find their place within Parti Laval.
Parti Laval has always embodied another way of doing politics: politics that are closer to the people, attentive to their concerns, more rigorous in the management of public funds, and focused on local services. I am convinced that everywhere in Laval, there are people who share this vision and who wish to contribute, each in their own way, to building something different.
