Municipal elections |Parti Laval unveils four new candidates with experience and experience in the field

Laval, Thursday, August 14, 2025 - Claude Larochelle, leader of Parti Laval and candidate for mayor, presented this morning four new candidates joining the ranks of his political party, bringing the number of confirmed candidates to sixteen as of today. The new faces joining the Parti Laval - Équipe Larochelle team for the November 2 election are Isabel Dion (Saint-François), Martin Vaillancourt (Fabreville-Sud), Valérie Rancourt (Sainte-Dorothée) and Frédérique Brunet-Maheu (Marigot). "With Isabel, Martin, Valérie and Frédérique, we're adding real agents of change to our team. Experienced people who will bring a fresh perspective to municipal politics in Laval. Competent people, ready to tackle right away the priorities that really matter to the people of Laval," declared Mr. Larochelle.

Experience and expertise for the people of Laval: Isabel Dion and Martin Vaillancourt

In eastern Laval, for Saint-François, Isabel Dion, an experienced social worker with a master's degree in international development management and candidate in last April's federal election in the Alfred-Pellan riding, will carry the Parti Laval colors. A mixed-race Quebecer of Brazilian descent, Isabel sits on several boards of directors and defends causes such as social justice, the French language and human rights. She is also 2nd Vice-President of the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montréal (SSJB).

The candidate says she wants to put her listening skills and political experience to work for Saint-François. "The current administration's record is more than disappointing for eastern Laval. The citizens of Saint-François deserve to be truly represented and listened to. They deserve to have their voices truly heard at City Council. That's what I want to do. For me, Parti Laval was clearly the best vehicle to achieve this: an honest and irreproachable party. A party that will be able to take concrete action for language, safety and neighbourhood life, issues of paramount importance to all Laval residents," explains Isabel Dion.

In the new district of Fabreville-Sud, Claude Larochelle has chosen Martin Vaillancourt, a seasoned engineer with over 30 years' experience who says he has decided to move from observation to action to "make a constructive contribution to Laval's future".

A Laval resident for almost 20 years, Mr. Vaillancourt has spent his career designing, analyzing and optimizing technological projects, reducing costs while improving the efficiency and reliability of products delivered to customers. A keen observer of municipal and provincial politics in Laval for many years, the Parti Laval candidate for Fabreville-Sud now wishes to put his expertise and knowledge at the service of citizens "so that their issues and priorities on the ground are addressed with concrete, effective and optimal solutions".

A breath of fresh air: Valérie Rancourt and Frédérique Brunet-Maheu

In Sainte-Dorothée, Valérie Rancourt, a local native with a degree in political science, a certificate in law and digital content management, and a legal assistant with the Department of Justice Canada, is taking the plunge. Involved with the Communauté jeunesse de Parti Laval, the young candidate now wants to "bring change to municipal politics in Laval".

For Valérie, the campaign certainly won't be on unfamiliar ground, having grown up in a family with strong roots in Laval and involved in the island's sports scene, a commitment reflected in the renaming of the Samson arena in honor of her uncle Martin St-Louis.

A few kilometers further east, in Marigot, Frédérique Brunet-Maheu joins Parti Laval, with over 20 years' experience in management, customer service and the prestige hotel industry, having held senior positions at Fairmont Hotels and HEC Montréal.

Frédérique has always been involved in committees, with young people and in the school environment, and has sat on school and day-care center boards, as well as participating in numerous community projects. Having grown up between Laval-des-Rapides and Marigot, she comes from a family deeply rooted in Laval's community, social and political circles. Her grandfather, Paul Marcel-Maheu, was a municipal councillor in the former Ville de Laval-des-Rapides from 1950 to 1959 and again from 1962 to 1965. A flood victim herself, she says she wants to make Le Marigot a safe, dynamic and welcoming neighborhood, while promoting better access to sports and leisure facilities in Laval.
