Municipal elections | Parti Laval - Équipe Larochelle completes the presentation of its commitments
Laval, Thursday, October 16, 2025 - With only two weeks to go before the vote, and having already presented its various commitments in the areas of street and neighborhood safety, local infrastructure, water system modernization, municipal finances and mobility, Parti Laval - Équipe Larochelle today completes the unveiling of its election platform with the theme "a city that values its culture, heritage and language". Among other things, Claude Larochelle proposes to increase the number of places for artistic expression, provide greater support for cultural and community organizations in all neighborhoods, protect heritage buildings and promote the French language throughout the city. "Over the past 12 years, Mayor Boyer's party has allowed several heritage or historic buildings to deteriorate, particularly in Sainte-Rose, and has centralized cultural investments to the detriment of the neighborhoods. We want to do things differently. We want to bring culture closer to the people, support artists, protect places steeped in history. We want to make you proud for real. To do that, we're going to have to do better, and that's what we're proposing," says Mr. Larochelle.
Concrete commitments to culture, heritage and language
This sixth and final component of Mr. Larochelle's platform confirms his desire to strengthen the Laval identity through culture, heritage and language enhancement, and enables Parti Laval - Équipe Larochelle to complete this important step in the electoral process.
The party wants Laval to be recognized as a city proud of its history, heritage and collective identity, where culture plays a central role in neighbourhood life. To achieve this, Claude Larochelle presented the following commitments this morning:
- Increase the number of venues for meetings and cultural events, in particular by studying the creation of permanent outdoor stages in all neighbourhoods;
- Increase support for cultural and community activities, in collaboration with community centers, NPOs and seniors' residences;
- Follow up on the report of the ad hoc committee on the French language and appoint a commissioner responsible for fulfilling the obligations of Quebec's Bill 96 and implementing an action plan to promote the French language while respecting the linguistic rights of rights-holders;
- Strengthen the protection of heritage buildings by preventing unjustified demolition and increasing subsidy programs for their maintenance and restoration;
- Set up a municipal program to acquire and make available heritage buildings to local artists, in order to transform vacant or neglected buildings into venues for artistic creation and dissemination.
"Laval has everything it takes to be a leading cultural city, a city that protects its history and brings its neighborhoods to life. Laval deserves better than a short-term, piecemeal vision. My team and I are ready to put an end to improvisation and get down to business," concludes Mr. Larochelle.
