\"Laval will have to comply with the Flag Act\" - Louise Lortie, Marc-Aur\u00e8le-Fortin city councillor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laval, Thursday, March 14, 2024 - On March 12, the Laval City Council endorsed the proposal of Louise Lortie, Councillor for Marc-Aur\u00e8le-Fortin and Parti Laval representative, who called for the respect of the Quebec Flag and Emblems Act<\/em>. The proposal, tabled in February by Ms. Lortie, pointed out that Ville de Laval was not complying with the law, as several libraries and municipal buildings, including City Hall, were not displaying the flag in accordance with the law. Parti Laval is delighted with this victory, which will oblige the administration to put in place a paving policy to ensure that the flag is displayed in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unanimous support for our national emblem<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By adopting Parti Laval's proposal, the administration will correct its practices that contravene section 4 of bylaw 2 of the Act, which prescribes the display of the flag on municipal buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\" No fleurdelis\u00e9 is displayed on the current municipal council building, or in the main entrance. There is no Quebec flag on the facade of municipal libraries. Our flag is a symbol of our collective identity, pride and history. It was essential for me that we quickly rectify this discrepancy. <\/em>\"declared Louise Lortie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Claude Larochelle, interim leader of Parti Laval and Fabreville councillor, compliance with the law is not an option: \"We're the only major city in Quebec that doesn't respect the flag law in front of its city hall and several of its libraries,<\/em> says Larochelle. The hundreds of Lavallois who signed the petition agree with Parti Laval, who want the city to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\" At the town council meeting, the elected representatives made the right decision. We need a flagging policy to guide us in the use of flags, in keeping with our obligations and the contexts required by protocol. The Quebec flag must be flown on municipal buildings, as stipulated by law. <\/em>\"concludes Mr. Larochelle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
