Laval, Wednesday, August 9, 2023 - The debate surrounding the notice of proposal for the development of a verdant urban park on the vacant municipal lot opposite Montmorency metro station, tabled by Fabreville councillor and Parti Laval interim leader Claude Larochelle, took place at last night's municipal council meeting. Despite strong opposition to the plan to build a large library on this site, as demonstrated by the petition that has amassed nearly 1,600 signatures in favor of the park project over the past month and a half, the Boyer administration has chosen to ignore the will of the people. The mayor is adamant that the vacant lot will be transformed into a heat island. \"Unfortunately, discussions have shown that party lines are more important than the wishes expressed by citizens. Mayor Boyer even admitted that he wished he'd had this thought a few years earlier! It's far from too late to turn back the clock. The call for tenders has not been issued, no subsidies have been granted, and we're still many moons away from the first shovelful! Mayor Boyer may yet change his mind,\" says a still optimistic Claude Larochelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The start of a mobilization <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"We can't let down the 1,550 people behind us! The mobilization will continue. We're going to have to speak out louder and be more insistent. Over the next few weeks, we'll be meeting with representatives of the provincial government to make them more aware of the consequences of granting a possible subsidy for the large library project. Other political actions are also planned for the fall,\" confirms the interim leader of Parti Laval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"We have collected more signatures on our petition than the Mouvement lavallois has received in the Laval-des-Rapides district during the 2021 election. The city councillor for this sector seems to have forgotten his duty to represent the downtown citizens who elected him two years ago,\" points out Marc-Aur\u00e8le-Fortin city councillor Louise Lortie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"There's a limit to imposing your political agenda. We're talking about health and quality of life here! We can't afford to wait 20 or 30 years for a green space to appear in the downtown area, because an entire generation will have to pay the price. Downtown Laval is being built now, and it's time to make the right decisions for future generations,\" concludes Mr. Larochelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laval, le mercredi 9 ao\u00fbt 2023 \u2013 Le d\u00e9bat entourant l\u2019avis de proposition pour l\u2019am\u00e9nagement d\u2019un parc urbain verdoyant sur le terrain municipal vacant face \u00e0 la station de m\u00e9tro Montmorency, d\u00e9pos\u00e9 par le conseiller de Fabreville et chef par int\u00e9rim de Parti Laval, M. Claude Larochelle, a eu lieu lors du conseil municipal d\u2019hier soir. Malgr\u00e9 la vive opposition au projet de construction d\u2019une grande biblioth\u00e8que \u00e0 cet endroit, comme le d\u00e9montre la p\u00e9tition ayant amass\u00e9 pr\u00e8s de 1600 signatures en faveur du projet de parc au cours du dernier mois et demi, l\u2019administration Boyer a choisi d\u2019ignorer la volont\u00e9 citoyenne. Le maire persiste et signe : le terrain vague sera transform\u00e9 en un \u00eelot de chaleur. \u00ab On a malheureusement compris des discussions que la ligne de parti est plus importante que le d\u00e9sir exprim\u00e9 par les citoyennes et citoyens. Le maire Boyer a m\u00eame avou\u00e9 qu\u2019il aurait aim\u00e9 avoir cette r\u00e9flexion quelques ann\u00e9es plus t\u00f4t !  Il est loin d\u2019\u00eatre trop tard pour faire marche arri\u00e8re. L\u2019appel d\u2019offres n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9, aucune subvention n\u2019a \u00e9t\u00e9 accord\u00e9e, nous sommes \u00e0 des lunes de la premi\u00e8re pellet\u00e9e ! Le maire Boyer peut encore changer d\u2019id\u00e9e \u00bb, d\u00e9clare Claude Larochelle encore optimiste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le d\u00e9but d\u2019une mobilisation <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Cet enjeu est trop important, on ne peut pas laisser tomber les 1550 personnes qui sont derri\u00e8re nous ! La mobilisation va se poursuivre. Nous allons devoir parler plus fort et \u00eatre plus insistants. Durant les prochaines semaines, nous irons \u00e0 la rencontre de repr\u00e9sentants du gouvernement provincial afin de les sensibiliser davantage aux cons\u00e9quences de l\u2019octroi d\u2019une \u00e9ventuelle subvention pour le projet de grande biblioth\u00e8que. D\u2019autres actions politiques sont aussi pr\u00e9vues cet automne \u00bb, confirme le chef par int\u00e9rim de Parti Laval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Nous avons recueilli plus de signatures \u00e0 notre p\u00e9tition que le Mouvement lavallois a re\u00e7u d\u2019appuis dans le district Laval-des-Rapides lors de l\u2019\u00e9lection 2021. Le conseiller municipal du secteur semble oublier son devoir de repr\u00e9sentation des citoyennes et citoyens du centre-ville qui l\u2019ont \u00e9lu il y a deux ans \u00bb, souligne la conseill\u00e8re municipale de Marc-Aur\u00e8le-Fortin, Louise Lortie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Il y a une limite \u00e0 vouloir imposer son programme politique. Il est question de sant\u00e9, de qualit\u00e9 de vie, ici ! On ne peut pas se permettre d\u2019attendre 20 ou 30 ans avant de voir appara\u00eetre un espace vert au centre-ville, c\u2019est une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration enti\u00e8re qui va en subir les frais. Le centre-ville de Laval est en train de se construire maintenant, et c\u2019est aujourd\u2019hui qu\u2019il faut prendre les bonnes d\u00e9cisions pour les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations futures \u00bb, conclut M. Larochelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
